POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS)

PCOS causes the growth of cysts in ovaries, therefore it is known as polycystic ovary syndrome. These cysts may become the reason for hormonal imbalance but aren't harmful. If diagnosed early, it becomes easier to prevent serious and long term health problems because early diagnosis and treatment can help control the symptoms and prevent long-term problems. Generally, ovaries produce a small amount of androgens i.e. male sex hormones. But, when somebody is suffering from PCOS, the ovaries produce higher amount of these male hormones. There are possible consequences like acne, excess of facial and body hair and you may stop ovulating. PCOS also enhances the chances of getting diabetes as the body becomes resistant to insulin. Therefore, you’ll have problems in maintaining the blood sugar levels. It is usually difficult to understand whether you have PCOS because the symptoms will be mild initially.
